Challenge of a Lifetime!

Talented students from two of the most prestigious schools in Switzerland are invited for a challenge of a lifetime. They have to answer tough questions while freefalling from a hot air balloon and helicopter from 4.000 meters above the Swiss Alps. It is a great challenge to show how to stay calm under unexpected and challenging situations.

Students gather from Collège du Léman and Collège Champittet, -part of Nord Anglia Education- not knowing the extent of the challenge ahead organised by The Swiss Leadership Camp. They are welcomed with gracious hospitality at the historic Beau-Rivage Palace. Ten contestants sit down for one on one interviews in the boardroom where many important international treaties have been signed. Their creativity and quick thinking skills are about to be put to the test. The stakes are high, as only two students out of the ten will be selected.

The many unknowns of the interview, such as the unpredictable questions is a big challenge for the students. Thinking under pressure allows them to take what was learned so far and apply it in real life scenario. Remaining calm and preparing a well thought answer are some of the many critical skills for a successful future.

The Free Fall!

As the new day comes, the winners of the interview gather in the beautiful village of Chateau d’Oex. Victoria and Olivier, a bit nervous and definitely very excited, await as the pilot inflates the balloon.
Being prepared for unexpected changes is an important skill, as Victoria found out when her hot air balloon was changed for a helicopter! The main challenge still remains the same; will she keep calm and concentrated to answer as many questions as Olivier did while free falling?

Over 18 years ago, two brave pilots took off from Chateau d’Oex for an epic first tour of the world in a hot air balloon. This quaint mountain town organises a magnificent hot air balloon festival every year. It is also one of the beautiful locations of The Swiss Leadership Camp! Visitors in Chateau d’Oex can fly in a hot air balloon almost any time of the year. The Swiss luxury watch brand Parmigiani and the The Swiss hot air balloon capital of Chateau d’Oex support our future leaders by providing one of the balloons used in this challenge. The beautiful town plays host to hundreds of hot air balloons in January and February of each year. This colourful 9-day festival includes a night-time show, hot air balloon rides and kids’ day and takes place between January 27-February 4th 2018. See the full programme here.

Outside of the classroom experiences are an integral part of the contestants education. The experiences all 10 students took away will help them succeed for many years to come and we would like to compliment them all for being great leaders already!
